About
White Tea

White Tea is one of the most delicate tea varieties and is valued highly across the world for its smooth mouthfeel, delicate aroma and potent health benefits.

High quality White Tea is made by carefully plucking only the newly formed buds in early Spring, while leaving behind the leaves on the bush.

These buds have a fine coating of downy, white hair running along their surface which gives this tea the name, “White Tea”.

How It’s Made

The first step in making White Tea is to ensure that highly skilled hands pluck just the pre-pubescent buds from certain high-quality varietals of tea plants in early Spring.

These special buds are then quickly dried either in open sunlight or a carefully controlled indoor environment to ensure that no oxidation can take place.

White Teas are the least processed teas and go through just two stages of processing which converts the fresh green leaf into finished White Tea.

These stages are Withering (48 – 72 Hours) --> Drying.

Types of White Tea

White Tea nuances can be infinite based on tweaks in processing but there are two generally accepted varieties

Silver Needle (Bai Hao Yin Zhen) and White Peony (Bai Mudan)

Silver Needle White Teas are the original grade of white tea dating back thousands of years to the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907 A.D.) in Imperial China.

Silver Needle White Teas refer to tea that is made by strictly plucking only the new buds and curing them carefully.

White Peony (Bai Mudan) is a relatively newer style of White Tea which allows the plucking of noticeably young, unfurled leaves along with the new buds, thus allowing for a higher quantity to be harvested.

BREW TIME
2-3 min

White Tea, being the most delicate tea, is best enjoyed when steeped in 75 degree Celsius water for 2-3 minutes.

Boiling water should not be added to White Tea as it can kill some of the delicate flavors and notes in the tea.

Adding milk to White Tea isn’t advisable as it can overpower the nuances of the tea as well as diminish it’s considerable health benefits.
